Inside the houses, most families use a surprisingly large number of electrical appliances. It is not uncommon to find ten sockets, ten light points, a television, a refrigerator and a fan within a single residence. 'Literally all installations inside the houses are unsafe,' states Dôme. 'They have no earthing, no differential switch, and no circuit protection. There is often a serious risk of direct contact with electrically loaded points and surfaces. Apart from that, the appliances are mostly second hand items like incandescent lamps and old refrigerators that are very inefficient. The refrigerators in many cases still contain CFCs and are simply dumped when they’re stop working or are no longer required.'
