eCourse on Integrated Home Systems [E-BOOK]

1.1.1. Advantages and disadvantages of centralised systems

Advantages of centralised systems

  • Once the master has been installed in the system, all functions and facilities of the system can be used.
  • Expansion costs are lower than with decentralised systems because the input and output modules contain less intelligence and thus contain fewer components.

Disadvantages of centralised systems

  • If the master fails, the entire integrated home system does not work.
  • The initial costs are higher than with decentralised systems because you first have to invest in the master controller, which is generally the most expensive component of the installation.
