2.1. Using layers

Every good CAD program can work with layers. We can thus put certain components of the drawing in a separate layer. Layers can be made visible or invisible. In order to increase the clarity of our drawings, we will place every subsystem or component in a separate layer. These layers can also be printed separately. It gives us easy-to-read drawings.

We can further increase the clarity of our drawings by using a separate colour in each layer. One colour for the lights, another colour for the power sockets, and another colour for the roll-down shutter motors.

Figure 1: A drawing showing all subsystems is cluttered and unusable.

Figure 2: The layers for the walls, furniture and lights are combined on this drawing.

Figure 3: The same drawing as above, but with the power sockets layer instead of the lights.
