Capacity Factor

By Hans De Keulenaer / Published on Thu, 2007-09-20 19:09

The ratio of a power plant’s actual generation to its maximum potential generation over a certain time period. The “maximum potential” generation is determined by assuming continuous output at the power plant’s rated capacity. For example, a 10 MW plant operating for 10 hours would have maximum potential generation of 100 MWh; if it instead generated 50 MWh, it would have a capacity factor of 50 percent.
