Efficient lighting makes CDM look more efficient.
By Hans Nilsson / Published on Thu, 2006-12-07 08:00The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has long favoured energy supply projects. In a recent count less than 10% out of some 1300 projects had anything to do with energy efficiency and when they had it was mostly industrial efficiency. The irony is that it could very well be that we are allowing too big supply projects to be built for feeding an inflated and wasteful demand!
Now the Carbon Finance Unit at the World Bank suggest that projects within efficient lighting programmes should be promoted. The reason is that some recent decisions have blazed the trail for such programmes and that some final confirming decisions can be expected within soon.

When this happens, it could open up for a wave of projects. From the Carbon Expo 2006 it was reported that there was great enthusiasm from China for the CDM and soon there will be a Carbon Expo 2007.
