When protectionism is useful
The Worldwatch Institute has published a document that aims at raising the Energy Security in the United States by extended use of renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements. The starting point is the guzzling nation where fossil fuels take a major part in the supply.

The document sweeps through several aspects of many indigenous resources including job creation. It is, however, an issue where the figure for jobs in the PV-cases seems quite unlikely and the sources in the document are vague. But the ambition for increased security through "isolation" is convincing.
