The EU Strategic Energy Plan
By Hans Nilsson / Published on Wed, 2007-04-18 07:00The energy package announced that a strategic energy technology plan, STP, should be made in the year 2007. Some of the preliminaries look even fuzzier than the quick sketching that was made in the package. There is however a chance for you to help put things on track. A public consultation is open on the web till May 13.
There is a lot of guiding talk in the background material, but the most disturbing is that in the talk of diversification, there are no visions. In fact, it discusses an undefined vision (singular form) that should be made. One thing that could be productive is if the European Commission adopted the IEA Energy Technology Perspectives, ETP, as a background material. In that publication there are several scenarios tested and that could be useful for the STP.
It is also clear from the ETP that energy efficiency improvements is a common denominator and the main issue to tackle if there should be a real chance to meet the climate targets.
