Dr Johan H. R. Enslin (M’85–SM’92) received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical and electronic engineering from the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), Rand, South Africa, in 1981, 1983, and 1988, respectively. From 1982 to 1985, he worked for SPOORNET, South Africa. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1986 and served as a Professor and Head of Department until 1991. From 1991 to 1999, he held the Chair of Energy Systems in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, and was also the SAPSSI Technical Director at ESKOM. Since 2000, he has held a senior consulting position with KEMA, first in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and since 2003 in Raleigh NC. He was previously a Visiting Professor with Oregon State University, Corvallis, and LEEI, ENSEEIHT, Toulouse, France. He has written and co-authored more than 200 papers, including keynote addresses. He holds nine patents and has presented several short courses. He is involved in consulting and research work in several fields of DP, renewable energy, power quality, reactive power compensation, and power electronics. Dr. Enslin has received seven prized paper awards. He is a Senior Member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) and is a Registered Professional Engineer.
