Even the most localised power interruption can result in a wasted production batch.

48-hour production stoppage results in €10 million wastage

A pharmaceutical company was unable to cope with a sudden power surge in one of its production sites. The electrical system design was meant to handle unforeseen power events, such as lightning strikes or sudden drops in the supply voltage. The system protection proved insufficient. Production was interrupted for 48 hours. The resultant loss in production was estimated at €9 million. A further €1 million was wasted due to equipment damage, staff downtime and additional maintenance and quality control procedures being put in place before getting the system up and running again.
