Induction heating is used for the direct heating of electrically conducting materials. The primary advantage is that the heat is generated within the material itself, giving very fast cycle times, high efficiency and the possibility of localising heating. On the downside, because of the desired coupling between inductor and load, there are restrictions on the size and geometry of the workpiece. However, there are many applications in the field of heating or melting of metals.
