McDermott, Mike

Mike McDermott is a management consultant specialising in high technology areas, principally energy, the environment, engineering and materials.

After undertaking research on continuous esterification processes, he worked as a marketing manager in the chemicals, polymers, copper and aluminium industries, responsible for business development, acquisitions, investment feasibility studies and new product introduction.

As an energy sector consultant he worked for the European Commission on the evaluation of their Second 5-year Energy Demonstration Programme, and the development of the subsequent THERMIE Programme. Also the adoption of high technologies, particularly large industrial heat pumps, and the introduction Europe-wide of concepts such as contract energy management.

His principal current interests are in developing the interface between promoting environmental and energy efficiency goals, and inter-material competition in high technology sectors.
