In Memoriam - Jonathan Manson

The Leonardo ENERGY team deeply regrets the loss of our friend and colleague Jonathan Manson who unexpectedly passed away yesterday.

Jonathan worked with us since the beginning of the Leonardo ENERGY Initiative. His many contributions have been invaluable. He will be greatly missed as a mentor, friend and colleague.

Our deepest sympathies go to his family.

Jonathan will be deeply missed

Jonathan was a great colleague, a hard worker and a committed individual who by his passion, vision and energy built what is Leonardo ENERGY today.

Off work-hours, he was also a valuable man with a big heart who had a unique talent to understand very different mindset and people and moreover a very respectful and open minded person.

It is hard to imagine he won't be there in the future: I just simply can't cope with it and with this idea and all my feelings go to his family.

If I may give them a gift at this moment, I would like to remind them this interview he made in 2007 in Barcelona and to share with them the story about it: behind the scene, I remember we were at the WTC on the port on a typical sunny day and the issue was to have a calm set up for the interview and everytime something happened that prevented us to do it. It was like a monthy python scene but made reality. So after 5 tries and big laughs, we almost gave up with the video team. And then Jonathan said "this one will be good" with his joker smile and it magically was ! Jonathan was like this : his confidence and positive mindset saved us !

From Spain, on behalf of copper network and the multiple colleagues and collaborators Jonathan worked with, we regret so much the loss of our friend. Cheerful, enthusiastic and fluent in Spanish, he awoke friendliness and sympathy of whomever. His footprint will remain for ever in the lives of many people here. With the smile that we all had thinking of him and with the deep regret of knowing that he’s no longer with us, we express our sympathy to his family.

I interacted with Jonathan a few times on Skype and by e-mail on Fisuel and Slum Electrification but regretfully did not have the opportunity of meeting him personally. Jonathan also made an important contribution to the ICF newsletter in 2009. In all my interactions with him, I saw a positive, energetic and humorous human being. In spite of having never met, we shared some humourous comments each time we spoke. Alas, there will not be any more opportunities !

May his sould rest in peace and his family have the strength to recover frojm this loss.

Schocking news landed in the Inbox this morning.

It is hard to comprehend that Jonathan is no longer with us.

I pesonally met Jonathan only 5 times in his lifetime, but that was overly enough to understand what a great charecter he was.

This is really very sad news.
Jonathan was a truly inspirational man and a true gentleman than one could learn a lot from. I certainly did.
It was enormous privilege for me to have met him and have had an opportunity to collaborate with him for some time. He is one of a very few people that I will always remember and mention with highest possible respect and admiration.

I took part to a survey by him last December, he was a good interlocutor discrete with me and focussed on the study.
It was always nice to speak with him and to spend the spare time of the LE meetings.

Remembering Jonathan

I have many fond memories of working and socializing with Jonathan over the past few years. He brought a dedication and spirit to his work that was never daughted, and he was always like a beacon of positiveness and "we can do this" in all the times our paths crossed. I have particularly fond memories of working with Jonathan on a workshop in Barcelona and can still recall his bright smile greeting me early in the morning. My last conversation with him was via Video Skype just a few weeks ago, and was particularly memorable as Jonathan's cat jumped up onto his keyboard during the middle of the interview. Characterstically of Jonathan, this was a source of mirth rather than consternation for Jonathan, and we both discovered that we share a love of cats.

Jonathan will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to his family for their loss and to all my friends at Leonardo Energy and CDA who are keenly feeling he passing. --BH

From the team at Comsys we had the good fortune to share many interesting discussions with Jonathan over the years. These were always dotted with elements of commitment, knowledge and insight as well spiced with his great sense of humor. The news of Jonathans early passing has shaken us all and the Power Quality society is one important voice less. Jonathan created many footprints that will survive him and he will be missed. I have known Jonathan for 12 years ever since I joined ICA. We traveled together, and especially in the late 1990's and early years 2000's when I was involved in the electrical programs, spend time in many meetings, but also had the good fortune sharing meals, laughs and stories after hours. I will miss him. A true gentleman, friend, professional and with a contagious, optimistic and energetic spirit.

A great loss

I’ve only communicated a couple of times with Jonathan through the media of phone, skype and e-mail. But every time I had a good feeling about these conversations, the kind of feeling you get when someone understands and inspires you. His smile and his sense of humor were always there. I will miss our conversations.

I was very shocked to hear of the unexpected death of Jonathan. I've had the pleasure to work with Jonathan on a transformer webcast back in 2005. After performing a webinar about transformers I was asked to make a webcast. Since I'm not a native English speaker Jonathan did the speaking part of the webcast, while I gave him my speakers notes.

About two years ago I had a reunion of my old school. As a technician English was not my favourite lesson at school. During the reunion my old English teacher came to me and told me he had used google to find out what former student have done after school. He told me that he was really surprised that I had learned to speak English very well. I was surprised, until he told me that he had viewed a part of a webcasts about transformers on the internet. He never realised it was Jonathan who did the presentation and not me.

So Jonathan, thanks for the cooperation and discussions we had on several topics and also thanks for the good impression my former English teacher had after so many years on "my" very good English.

A true gentleman has left us!

I cannot remember all the conversations, discussions or disagreements we had but we've always come out of it with a hug and that small pat in the back - the realisation that his wisdow and my defiance were rather complementary and interwoven...

Ever curious and open minded, inspiring, provocative, Jonathan had always wise words to elighten us. I have learned a few I will never forget!

It left me speechless

It is not easy to react on such a sudden and tragic loss. At the first moment, the news left me speechless.

As if it were yesterday, I can still see Jonathan participating in the Socratic workshops on Leonardo Energy, organized by Hans. It was the kind of environment where his talents flourished. His passion for writing and discussing and his craftsmanship to find exactly the right wordings. His ability to unite seemingly opposed points of view. His optimistic, joyful mood, and his subtle sense of humour. We will miss him badly.

Hereby I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends. I feel with them and wish them a lot of strength.

I met Jonathan seven years ago when I start my job in Fenie. He was one of the first people who help me to understand and love this sector. His sympathy and dynamism were contagious. A good worker, but a better person and friend. Thanks for all those moments together.

Jonathan had a loving and generous soul and he gave a great deal of himself to those around him.

I first met Jonathan in 1989, when he was at JWT. I was at the very start of my career, and probably a terrible nuisance. But Jonathan remained unfailingly kind and courteous to me, an attribute which he never lost and which I will never forget.

He will be sorely missed.

I have been deeply sad to hear about Jonathan's death.
I am still shocked at the suddeness of his decease especially that we just decided to relaunch our Feeds initiative and I cannot imagine to work on that issue without his fantastic expertise.
More than a wonderful person, he was always kind. His softness and his simplicity always contributed to create a climate of sympathy which made our meetings particularly pleasant.

Jonathan first started to work with CDA in the early 1990s and our excellent relationship with him grew stronger over the years. He was very erudite, a perfect gentleman and we will always remember him with much affection.
