Marcel Didden was born in Heerlen (NL) in 1974. He received his MSc.-degree in Electrical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen (Germany) in 1998. In 2003 he obtained his Ph.D. with his thesis ‘Techno-Economic analysis of methods to reduce damage due to voltage dips’ at the KULeuven (Belgium). Until 2006 he worked at Laborelec as a consultant in the area of Power Quality and Energy Auditing.

Jan Declercq was born and lives in Belgium. He obtained his Masters degree in Mechancial Engineering at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium where he also obtained a MBA and a Ph.D. on fluid dynamics and heat transfer. After a sabbatical at Purdue University USA, he joined Pauwels Trafo Belgium, an international transformer manufacturer in August 1996. He was head of the Research and Development department since December 1999 and now active as Business Development Manager New Technolgies. Research, technological risk assessment, new materials and new applications, Marketing of new developments and international business development for wind energy are his main responsibilities. He is member and active in different workinggroups of IEEE, IEC TC 14, Cigre A2 and EWEA committees. He is currently convenor of Cigre A2-WG24 Thermal Performances. His interests are heat transfer, fluid dynamics, acoustics and renewable energy.

Antoni Klajn was graduated by the Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland), Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1977 (M.Sc.) and in 1980 (Ph.D). Mircea Chindris received the Electrical Engineer degree and PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Since 1975 he has been with the same university where nowadays he is Professor of Power Systems and head of the Rational Use of Electric Power Research Team. His research areas of interest are power systems, power quality, energy management, and artificial intelligence. He is author or co-author of 25 books in electrical and power engineering and of 148 scientific papers.

Andreas Sumper Graduated as a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Dipl.−Ing.) at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he was an international project manager in the private industry. In 2002, he joined the Centre for Technological Innovation in Static Converters and Drives (CITCEA) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain), where he is currently completing his PhD. At CITCEA, he is executing research and innovation projects with the local industry in the field of power quality. His research interests are power quality, power system reliability and distributed generation.

Knut Samdal was born on August 21 1969 in Bergen, Norway. He received his MSc degree in electrical engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, former NTH), in 1997. He has been with SINTEF Energy Research since 1998. He is presently a research scientist at SINTEF Energy Research, Department of Energy Systems, working mainly with reliability and interruption cost assessment, and risk analyses. He has been leader of the Distribution System Asset Management research group at SINTEF Energy Research since 2002.

Daniel Kirschen received his Electrical and Mechanical Engineer's degree from the Free University of Brussels in Belgium and his Master's and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked on the development of software for utility control centres for Control Data Corporation and Siemens. Since 1994 he has been at The University of Manchester (previously UMIST) where he is Professor of Electrical Energy Systems and head of the electrical energy and power systems group. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the IET as well as a member of Sigma Xi.

Stefan Fassbinder, born 1955, is an electrical engineer at DKI Deutsches Kupfer-Institut, a non-profit organization representing the copper industry in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. DKI was founded in 1927 to provide free advice and assistance to all users of copper and copper alloys in industry, institutes, universities and also to individuals, students, artists and the general public.
