Active Earthing System to Optimise Power Quality in MV Networks

By Hans De Keulenaer / Published on Wed, 2008-01-16 15:09

By A Amezua et al

Neutral treatment is a key issue when an MV network is designed. Requirements of insulation and safety have to be met whilst guaranteeing rapid fault detection, location, arc suppression and tripping, if necessary, within a proper timing. The values of overvoltages and fault currents expected in the network are crucial, since they affect Power Quality parameters, namely interruptions and voltage dips.

Optimization of the Compensation of a Meshed MV Network by a Modified Genetic Algorithm

By Hans De Keulenaer / Published on Wed, 2008-01-16 14:05

By M Paar et al

This article discusses the utilization of a modified genetic algorithm (GA) for the optimization of the shunt compensation in meshed and radial MV distribution networks.

The algorithm looks for minimum costs of the network power losses and minimum capital and operating costs of applied capacitors, all of this under limitations specified by a multicriteria penalization function. The parallel evolution branches in the GA are used for the purpose of the optimization acceleration.
