A free Windows® program for teaching power quality concepts is presented. The program uses interactive graphs and controls. Concepts include fundamental and reactive power, sequence vectors, voltage dip effects on single-phase and threephase rectifier loads, flicker, harmonic concepts, harmonic power flow, harmonic sequencing, and distortion and source impedance. The program operates in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Swedish, and Polish, with Japanese and Malaysian expected soon.

The authors consider the issues of studying interharmonics generated by direct frequency converters. One of aspects of the problem of power quality - questions of appearance of additional power losses in the elements of electrical networks are considered in the paper. Application areas of the filters of different orders intended for reduction the levels of the interharmonics generated by frequency converters are described.

Summary: The paper presents results of calculations of interharmonics generated by a squirrel cage induction machine, in both the healthy and faulty operating conditions. Two case studies refer to broken bars and clutch wobbling. The analyses were accomplished by a dedicated digital system for offline diagnosis of induction machines.

In partnership with Power Standards Lab, LPQI introduces the PQ Teaching Toy. This tool, which can be freely circulated, illustrates in a graphical way a variety of phenomena in electric power systems, such as fundamental & reactive power, harmonic waveforms, various types of dips, fundamental sequence vectors, the effect of source impedance and much more. Recommended for anybody interested in electric power systems.
